Mission of the Session
The Session is comprised of the Ruling Elders and Teaching Elder, who is our Pastor. Session holds stated meetings on the fourth Monday of each month except for July. Called meetings will occur occasionally as business warrents. All these meetings are open to the membership of the church.
The session is the council for the congregation and has responsibility for governing the congregation and guiding its witness to the sovereign activity of God in the world, so that the congregation is and becomes a community of faith, hope, love, and witness.
Specific responsibilities and powers
In light of the mission just stated, the session has responsibility and power to:
- provide that the Word of God may be truly preached and heard
- provide that the Sacraments may be rightly administered and received
- nurture the covenant community of disciples of Christ
How our session achieves these responsibilities
At a session meeting, the Ruling Elders and Teaching Elder convene to share business of their ministry teams and pass important motions. Most importantly, though, we gather around the Word of God to pray about and explore answers to the following two questions:
- What is God doing here?
- What are we doing to join God in what He's doing?
