Mission of the Diaconate
The ministry of deacons as set forth in scripture is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress. Our deacons are involved in the mission of this church whether by caring for their members or in the local and global interests of Memorial.
The Work of the Diaconate
The Diaconate is comprised of the active deacons and is self-moderated. The diaconate works under the direction of the Session and holds stated meetings on the second Monday of each month except for July. To do its work, the deacons provide leadership individually to members of the congregation and serve on ministry teams.
The Diaconate Ministry Teams
Along with our Pastor, this team is a first responder to families who are grieving the loss of a loved one. This team takes care of details such as funeral coordination with the office, meal preparation for the family, and others details as requested by the family or the Pastor.
Christian Fellowship & Hospitality
This team focuses on providing meals to the congregation each Wednesday night, refreshements on Sunday mornings, and coordinates our occasional potlucks or other special events where food is involved.
This team provides leadership in several areas involving care of the congregation such as hospital visits, our bi-monthly newsletter The Grapevine for people who prefer paper media, guides our homebound ministry, and coordinates other ministries of care within the congregation.
One or more of our deacons serve on the Session's mission ministry team.
